I
have officially been initiated into the LA traffic club. I have a real commute, not one of those baby ones
that I used to whine about when I lived in Utah and the I-5 would get a little
congested (AKA it would take me 12 minutes to get home instead of the normal
10). No, this is legit. I started working in West LA about 2 months
ago, which is about 30 miles from where we live. On the first day of
orientation, I took the route that mapquest gave me. Mistake #1. It took
me about 1.5 hours to get there. As the days went on, I had fun trying different
routes until I finally found the best one that I've stayed with ever since.
I got that 1.5 hours down to about 45 minutes, give or take a few.
I never thought I would think that 45 minutes each way to work would be
GOOD, but now I truly believe that! Especially when I have co-workers
that commute from Lancaster to West LA. If your eyes didn't get big when
you read that, you should mapquest it. They do that everyday and they
don't carpool. That is commitment, people.
So,
if I have been calling you more lately, especially around the hours of
3:30-4:30 on Monday through Thursday, now you know the real reason: I'm bored out of my mind. And plus I want to talk to you,
of course!!! :)
I
wanted to document this so I can look back when I'm about to complain about
small-time commuting in the future. :)
On
the plus side: 1. My driving skills have improved a lot. I can weave like the
best of them (somewhat)
2.
Quiet time in the early morning is nice. 3. I only work 4 days a week, so its
not as bad as it could be. 4. In this economy, its good to have a job,
period.
What
annoyances do you have in your life?

Wow, that really does sound legit. I'm annoyed with all the construction going on around us right now.. A usual 5 min drive takes closer to 20.. But that's nothing Compared to what you are doing :)
